[ANALYSIS] Capital One Transferring my Aspire World Travel Card to Travel World Elite

I recently received a letter from Capital One saying that I will be transferred away from the Capital One Aspire World Travel MasterCard which was discontinued to the new Capital One Aspire Travel World Elite MasterCard instead, sometime before August 16, 2015 where the Capital One Aspire World Travel MasterCard will be deactivated (according to my letter). I was initially told that the Capital One Aspire World Travel MasterCard was going to be grandfathered, but I guess not.

Because of this transfer, I am going to take a deeper look into the benefits of the Capital One Aspire World Travel MasterCard. Below are the benefits that come with it.

These travel benefits are always great to have. They pretty much cover all the travel insurances needed for a vacation:

  • Travel Emergency Medical
  • Trip Cancellation
  • Trip Interruption
  • Flight Delay
  • Baggage Loss
  • Baggage Delay
  • Travel Accident Insurance
  • Travel Assistance

This helps us cover any car rental insurances:

  • Car Rental Collision/Loss Damage Waiver

This is especially useful for every day purchases:

  • Price Protection Service
  • Extended Warranty
  • Purchase Assurance

This is a special one, that was not previously included in the Capital One Aspire World Travel MasterCard. Here is the exact wording:

  • World Elite MasterCard Concierge Services

Enjoy access to comprehensive, personalized assistance 365 days a year. Let the World Elite MasterCard Concierge become your single source for all your needs, including special access and privileges, whether you are at home or away. A highly trained and experienced team is always at your fingertips, ready to save you time and make things easier for you. Whether it’s securing dinner reservations, tickets to events, coordinating business arrangements, locating hard-to-find items or booking travel, the World Elite MasterCard Concierge can help bring you the very best whenever you need it. Any costs incurred in connection with these services will be charged to your Capital One card.

Once I receive the new credit card, I am definitely going to take a closer look at this benefit. I am extremely curious to see how good this service will be.

  1. Am I missing something here? The way I understand it, all cardholders from world travel card continue to receive the 10,000 annual points and all the same benefits. The only thing taken away was the 35000 sign-up points. So for current holders it is basically the same card isn’t it?

    1. The main difference is that it is 10,000 sign up bonus instead of 35,000. And the anniversary bonus is now 0 instead of 10,000.

  2. I received this letter as well and I am sure it indicated that cardholders of the aspire world traveller who transition to the travel world elite will continue to receive the 10000 anniversary points?

    1. Yes. I received that letter confirming that too. But this benefit may only be for people who used to have the Aspire World Travel version but not for brand new applicants as shown on the website.

  3. As long as there is the 10,000 points anniversary bonus (for those of us that have had the card for years) I will keep it as it is a 100$ value that offsets the 120$ fee.

  4. Hi Jim and Matthew,

It’s Andrew from Capital One. I can confirm that any current Aspire Travel World customers who are being upgraded to the World Elite product will, indeed, continue to receive their annual anniversary bonus.

For new customers, they’ll receive 10,000 bonus reward miles for their first purchase and they’ll earn – an industry leading – two reward miles for every dollar spent on all net purchase, without any limits. There is no annual bonus on the product.

    Hope this is helpful.

  5. I did received the letter and the letter states that current Aspire World travel cardholders will still be receiving their annual 10,000 bonus. I am curious about the concierge benefits. Anyone know how to use it?

    Thanks

    1. I’m still waiting for my card. Definitely very curious about the concierge benefits too.
