[ANALYSIS] CIBC Tim Hortons Double Double Visa Card

CIBC is introducing a new credit card to its portfolio. The new CIBC Tim Hortons Double Double Visa Card. Below are the highlights of the new credit card:

  • No annual fee
  • Earn $400 sign up bonus (if you apply before October 31, 2014)
  • Earn $20 in Tim Cash  when you spend $200 on all purchases
  • Earn 1% cash back in Tim Cash on all purchases

The first $100 sign up bonus is earned when you register for CIBC Online Banking or CIBC Mobile Banking and then pay a bill or send an Interac e-Transfer. The additional $300 is earned when you open a new account and complete an eligible direct deposit or eligible pre-authorized payments.

A new account includes the CIBC EverydayPlus Chequing Account, CIBC Unlimited Chequing Account or CIBC PremierService Account.

The no annual fee and 1% cash back is pretty standard compared to other no annual fee cash back credit cards in Canada. In this case though, you are earning cash back that will be used at Tim Hortons.

You can redeem your Tim Cash in real time when you are at a Tim Horton’s. It is possible that some stores may not have the feature up and running yet, so beware of that.

I do not see anything special about this credit card. The sign up bonus is great, but you need to get a bank account with them. I was not expecting too much from this credit card to begin with.

I will personally not be getting this credit card for myself because I can get more value elsewhere.
