Happy Valentine’s Day!

For the ladies, I hope that you enjoy this day, whether you have a significant other or just spending time with family or friends. I must say, this is also a good time to travel since it is fairly cold in Canada at this time of the year. For the men, there is probably not much to say about this day except “stress”?

For the ones paying for the bill, the main thing to remember is which credit card to use at a restaurant. Here is a quick recap on the top 3 credit cards:

The TrueEarnings Card Costco and American Express

American Express TrueEarnings

  • No annual fee
  • You must be a Costco member to get this card
  • Earn 3% cash back on eligible restaurant purchases (for some reason, some restaurants are ineligible)
  • The cash back is issued to you in January in the form of a coupon to be used at Costco only

Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card

American Express Scotiabank Platinum

  • $399 annual fee
  • $99 for supplementary cardholders
  • Earn 30,000 bonus points with your first card purchase (promotion until March 31, 2014)
  • Earn 4 points for every $1 you spent on dining

Scotiabank Gold American Express Card

American Express Scotiabank Gold

Otherwise, use a credit card that gives you at least a 2% return, such as the Capital One Aspire Travel World MasterCard or the MBNA Rewards World Elite MasterCard.
