[HOTEL] Hyatt 2015 Award Chart Changes

Hyatt has released is 2015 award chart changes that will come into effect on January 22, 2015. There are changes to 70 hotels, where 48 hotels are moving to a lower category and 22 hotels moving to a higher category. This is very positive news considering that Hyatt’s loyalty program, Hyatt Passport, was hit with a pretty big devaluation last year.

Between now and January 22, 2015, your award bookings will be made using the current award chart. Existing reservations for stays subsequent to January 21, 2015, will receive a refund for the point difference if the hotel moved to a lower category. Great job on Hyatt’s part.

Only two hotels from Canada made the list:

  • Hyatt Regency Toronto goes from Category 2 to Category 3
  • Hyatt Regency Montreal drops from Category 3 to Category 2

Keep in mind the points redemption options:

Standard Room

  • Category 1: 5,000 points or 2,500 points + $50
  • Category 2: 8,000 points or 4,000 points + $55
  • Category 3: 12,000 points or 6,000 points + $75
  • Category 4: 15,000 points or 7,500 points + $100
  • Category 5: 20,000 points or 10,000 points + $125
  • Category 6: 25,000 points or 12,500 points + $150
  • Category 7: 30,000 points or 15,000 points + $300

Regency/Grand

  • Category 1: 7,000 points
  • Category 2: 12,000 points
  • Category 3: 17,000 points
  • Category 4: 21,000 points
  • Category 5: 27,000 points
  • Category 6: 33,000 points
  • Category 7: 39,000 points

Personally I am still having trouble getting on board Hyatt’s loyalty program because points expire 12 months after they were deposited unless you have some activity. There just aren’t enough earning opportunities for Canadians. Instead, if you happen to stay with Hyatt once in a while, you’re better off setting your Hyatt Passport account to directly earn points with another loyalty program instead.
