[HOTEL] 2015 Reward Chart Changes with Starwood Preferred Guest

Last year, we did not see too many changes to Canadian Starwood Preferred Guest hotels. This year is a whole new story. Overall, 10.49% of the hotels are moving up and 11.78% are going down in category. For Canadian hotels, we are actually pretty fortunate because many hotels actually dropped in Categories, which means that we will need less points to redeem for a hotel room. Below are most of the changes to Canadian hotels:

  • Four Points by Sheraton Waterloo – Kitchener Hotel & Suites (Waterloo, Ontario) went up from Category 2 to 3

  • Aloft Montréal Airport (Montreal, Quebec) dropped from Category 3 to 2
  • Element Vaughan Southwest (Vaughan, Ontario) dropped from Category 3 to 2

The changes will go into effect on March 10, 2015. So if you were thinking of redeem your points for a certain hotel room, you might want to re-think your strategy. You may be able to redeem your points for less points after March 10, 2015. It is actually pretty easy to be happy with the changes to the hotel Categories in Canada.
