PayPower Switching to MasterCard

UPDATE- Please see updated posted.

Our buddy Boris from PointsU gave us a heads up about PayPower switching from Visa to MasterCard.

It looks like Visa is taking another hit (i.e. not landing Costco, Walmart fiasco, etc.), albeit a minor one. PayPower has been issuing Visa cards, which will be switching to MasterCard.

Key Dates

Below are the keys dates to keep in mind:

  • November 28, 2016 – PayPower Reloadable Mastercards become available for purchase in-store
  • December 15, 2016 – The last day to purchase PayPower Visa cards and Reload Packs
  • January 11, 2017 – The last day that PayPower Visa reload and registration functionality will cease
  • March 22, 2017 – The last day that PayPower Visa cards will continue to be accepted.

How it Works

PayPower offers a re-loadable prepaid card, that does not require any credit card and does not charge any interest. All you have to do is apply for a card online. Once you receive you card, you can reload your card at a cash register or online. The funds will be applied instantly.

  1. I bought a reloadable paypower MasterCard about three months ago and I can’t find anywhere online to find out what my balance is. I even called the toll free number and it said it wasn’t activated but I activated it online this morning.

  2. hi my name is Joanna Jones they discounted my card in I never got my off from my text service.

  3. Since I can’t find Vanilla Reloads anywhere locally except 7-11 (which won’t give me any bonus points by purchasing there), I’m considering purchasing a PayPower card from Safeway. However, the reviews online seem universally bad. Have you used the PayPower Mastercard yourself?

  4. I bought a paypower master card and i wish to cancel my account. I don’t want any monthly charges. The thing is I can’t reach customer service (1 800 982 1258) to cancel my account. What do i do? This is so frustrating..

    1. I have a the same problem I bought a PayPower MaterCard and now I want to cancel it because of monthly charges so should I just spend all the money loaded or what? I want to cancel it but the company is trash and won’t let me! Please Reply Soon this is very annoying!!

          1. So don’t reload is what your saying just ditch it I was confused by what you mean by cancel it because I don’t want to call the customer service is terrible. Thank You Very Much!

          2. I have about 5 cents on the card is that fine o don’t know how to get rid of it.

  5. this program is outright fraud. They say it is reloadable, but this is not necessarily true. totally misleading advertisig.

  6. I bought a card and want to get rid of it but there’s 5 cents on it and I can’t spend it anywhere I just want to get rid of it because of the monthly fee!!

  7. I have a pay power master card and i have literally one cent on it and i didn’t upgrade (although i was tempted too until i saw the monthly fees..) but since i never upgraded it there are no monthly fees attached to it right?

    1. Unless you have a credit card linked to your account which they can debit at any time?

If you are worried, why not cancel the card and keep it clean?
