Porter Airlines becomes the Official Sponsor of Pan Am

The Pan Am Games of 2015 commences in two days, on July 10, 2015 and Porter Airlines has decided to give priority to the event by releasing two Bombardier Q400 airplanes decorated with the Pan Am theme. The CEO of Porter states that “it will be a flying promotion for the Games”.

Toronto is currently the official hub for Porter Airlines, flying mainly between Halifax, Montreal and Ottawa. Other Canadian cities include Moncton, Quebec City, St. John’s, Sudbury, Timmins, Thunder Bay and Windsor. It also has flights to the US. Asides from providing flights to Toronto, on May 30th, Porter Airlines transported the flame from Toronto to Thunder Bay for the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay.

Additionally, in 2012, the City of Toronto announced that it will create a pedestrian tunnel which extends from the Toronto mainland at Eireann Quay to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport on the Toronto Islands. Due to several delays, the tunnel was expected to be completed in time for the Pan Am Games. Unfortunately, the Globe and Mail announced in June that the Toronto Island Airport Tunnel likely will not be ready for the Pan Am Games. The airport tunnel is expected to be ready for operation in late July.

Porter Airlines states that they are not worried that the tunnel is not opened in time for the Pan Am Games as this has no relative connection to their sponsorship with the upcoming event.

Porter - Pan Am Toronto 2015

It is the 17th Pan American Games held in Toronto, Ontario from July 10th to the 26th. This multi-sport event is expected to be the largest event held in Canada in terms of the number of athletes competing, overriding the amount in the 2010 Winter Olympics. There are approximately 1.2 million tickets available for the Pan Am events.

Currently, flexible fare flights on Porter Airlines from Ottawa (YOW) are $258, from Montreal (YUL) are $317, from Halifax (YHZ) are $360 and from Quebec City (YQB) are $314. Comparably, there isn’t much difference in flexible fare tickets whether you are booking during Pan Am Games or not. If you plan to hit up Toronto mid event, you can find firm fare rates at $120 from Ottawa, $259 from Halifax, $159 from Montreal, and $199 from Quebec City, just to name a few.
