SkyTeam Launching an Alliance-Wide Online Booking Tool

There is a report mentioning that airline alliance SkyTeam are looking to launch an online system for frequent flyer members to book award flights. This system will be active towards the end of the year. The system will allow loyalty members with any of the alliance’s 20 member airlines to book award availability seats on another Skyteam airline online. One of the steps is to ensure that all the member airlines are on board with the idea.

Currently, members have to make an award booking through their respective loyalty programs. For the most part, even though you are booking through your own program, you can generally see other alliance member flights.  This initiative will consolidate all those systems together.

I am really hoping to see this plan go through. In theory, this should bold well for consumers. Consolidating all the systems means that we should be able to see all the award flights available for the entire alliance. I hope this happens and I also hope that the other airline alliances eventually also get on board with this idea.

Good on SkyTeam to take the lead!
