Targeted RBC Bonus Promotion for Adding Authorized Users

The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) appears to be sending out letters to some of its credit card holders offering a bonus for adding authorized users. I received a letter offering 8,000 Shoppers Optimum bonus points. I immediately added my spouse as an authorized user.

I have the RBC Shoppers Optimum MasterCard because I previously held the RBC Visa Infinite Avion, but didn’t feel like paying the annual fee, so I transfer to this Shoppers one. I need to hold onto one RBC credit card to qualify for the multi-product rebate for my chequing account.  Keep in mind that RBC now has a rule where you need to use your credit card once every 90 days to continue to qualify for the multi-product rebate.

It’s kind of a pain. If the pain persists, I’ll probably make a switch and take my money out of RBC and use another bank instead, which would be too bad because I had this account since I was born. But I am more than happy to give my business to someone else who is willing to be more competitive.

Below is a list of some of the different known targeted offers that I am hearing about:

What kind of offer did you receive? I would be more than happy to add it to the list!

  1. I received an offer to receive 100 Westjet dollars on my WestJet RBC World Elite MasterCard. Adding an authorized user to this card costs 50 CAD. So basically one gets to buy 100 Westjet dollars for 50 CAD. Not a bad deal.
