Which Credit Cards to Use to Maximize Your Return on Gift Cards

Buying gift cards can potentially help you earn points or cash back much faster. One of the best cards in Canada to take this approach with was the RBC Target MasterCard, which gave 5% cash back for all purchases made at Target. So what you would do is buy gift cards at retailers that you know that you will shop at, get the 5% return at Target, then proceed to using that gift card that the appropriate store.

This way, you are essentially getting a 5% return on the purchase that you are making at that retailer, instead of getting a lower percentage of return on your credit card, depending on which credit card that you were going to use.

This is a great way to maximize the return on your spending. Below is a list of some of the other excellent credit cards to use when purchasing gift cards to help you maximize your return:

  • Earn 5% cash back on purchases for the first 6 months of Cardmembership (up to $400 cash back)

Scotiabank Gold American Express Card

  • Earn 4 points for every $1 spent at gas stations, grocery stores, on dining and entertainment

Scotiabank American Express Platinum Card

  • Earn 4 points for every $1 spent at gas stations, grocery stores, on dining and entertainment

Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite Card

  • Earn 4% cash back for every $1 spent on gas station and grocery store purchases
