[HOTEL] 2016 Reward Chart Changes with Starwood Preferred Guest

Starwood Preferred Guest has announced its 2016 hotel category changes, which will come into effect on March 1, 2016. But first, here is a quick recap on the number of points required for a reward night for each category:

  • Category 1 = 2,000 – 3,000
  • Category 2 = 3,000 – 4,000
  • Category 3 = 7,000
  • Category 4 = 10,000
  • Category 5 = 12,000 – 16,000
  • Category 6 = 20,000 – 25,000
  • Category 7 = 30,000 – 35,000

Overall, there are:

  • 282 hotels changing categories
  • 168 hotels are going up at least one category
  • 114 hotels are going down at least one category

That is relatively even. Though, only 1 Canadian hotel is actually increasing its category.

Sheraton Vancouver Airport Hotel British Columbia Richmond 2 3

While there are 13 Canadian hotels that are decreasing their category. This is looking pretty sweet for people travelling within and to Canada. The weak Canadian dollar is really having an effect on the tourism industry.
