AC Conversion Offers Coming to an End

CIBC has been running a Mexico Contest where you can qualify to win flights for two to Mexico by loading your Air Canada AC Conversion Visa Prepaid Card with at least $100 of foreign currency.

This contest ran from February 26, 2018 to April 8, 2018. The prize is an Air Canada travel promo code for economy class travel for two to a city in Mexico serviced by Air Canada  Odds of winning depend on number of eligible entries received.

More importantly, effective April 13, 2018, Air Canada AC Conversion Visa Prepaid Card will no longer be accepting the ability to load Canadian Dollars direct on the card. Currently, you can still load $100 CAD per day.

Other currencies will continue to be available, as well as the ability to convert those foreign currencies into CAD and still withdraw the CAD.

Below is the list of foreign currencies that you can still load:

  • Australian Dollars (AUD)
  • Euros (EUR)
  • Great British Pounds (UK) (GBP)
  • Hong Kong Dollars (HKD)
  • Japanese Yen (JPY)
  • Mexican Peso (MXN)
  • Swiss Franc (Switzerland) (CHF)
  • Turkish Lira (TRY)
  • United States Dollars (USD)

Quite an unfortunate turn of events, but it was bound to happen. I still hold out hope that one day they will reverse their decision. Otherwise, this card will probably eventually just completely shut down or get even worse.

  1. I recently got this card and actually use it for overseas spend.

Right now if I use it for spending in a non-supported currency, it deducts from the CAD wallet. What will happen going forward?
