AccorHotels is a French hotel group headquartered in Paris, France. There are approximately 3,800 locations across the world.
AccorHotels have separated their hotels into a few different types of branding: economy, midscale, upscale, and luxury.
The economy brand was previously AccorHotel’s budget hotels, which was reinvented into the “ibis” brand, with the ibis budget, ibis Styles and ibis red logo. Another economy brand is their chain of hotelF1 locations which offer a room for washing your clothes, share bathrooms and show facilities.
Some previous economy and budget hotels were Motel 6, Studio 6 and Red Roof Inn, in which Motel 6 and Studio 6 were then sold to Blackstone.
The midscale brands include their largest brand Mercure, found in 732 locations and resort across the world. One that may be more recognizable for Canadians is the Novotel brand, which has 414 hotels in 61 countries. Adagio is a brand made to accommodate long term stay guests as the design is more apartment styled.
For AccorHotel’s upscale brands, you will find the following brands: Grand Mercure, Grand Mercure Apartments, Mei Jue, Maha Cipta, The Sebel, Mama Shelter, Pullman and Mgalary.
Finally, the company’s luxury brands include Sofitel, Sofitel So and Sofitel Legend. As a more recognizable brand in Canada, Accor currently hold 121 properties for this brand.

Accor Continues to Grow
In the most recent update of Accor, the hotel chain has completed the deal in buying Fairmont, Raffles and Swissotel for $2.9 Billion US. The three lines combines owns approximately 155 hotels, some iconic locations which we can all recognize are the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, Royal York Hotel in Toronto, Montreal’s Queen Elizabeth, Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City and Fairmont Banff Springs.
While AccorHotels will become major shareholders in companies with Qatar and Saudi, QIA and King Holding will each keep minority stakes in the new Accor company.
The Bottom Line
With so many other options for accommodations in recent years, the introduction of AirBnB and residential stay, Accor continues to find ways to breakthrough this move in the hotel industry.
