[AIRLINE] My Memory of United Airlines Flight from Ottawa (YOW) to Las Vegas (LAS)

For my Las Vegas flight, I decided to fly United Airlines as I flew them last time. They are also a partner alliance of Aeroplan, my preferred loyalty program. This was the first time I had flown in a Boeing 737/800-900 aircraft. Surprisingly, it was very spacious and looked very modern. There were seven of us who were on the trip, so we were in the economy cabin for this ride. The seating was great and I did not feel that I was invading my neighbour’s space beside me.

Being an avid points collector, what I remembered most from the flight was noticing the United MileagePlus Explorer card by Chase. I don’t normally talk too much about American credit cards, but this one really caught my attention.

Here’s the card at a glance:

  • Earn 50,000 Bonus Miles after you spend $3,000 on purchases with the MileagePlus Explorer card.
  • Earn 5,000 Additional Miles after you make a Card purchase and add an authorized user to your account.
  • Earn 10,000 Bonus Miles every calendar year when you spend at least $25,00 in net purchases on your MileagePlus Explorer card.
  • The primary Cardmember and one companion travelling on the same itinerary will have their first checked bag free when you purchase the flight with your MileagePlus Explorer card.
  • Earn 2 miles per $1 spent on tickets purchased from United Airlines, with no limit on the number of miles you are eligible in earning.
  • Earn 1 mile per $1 spent on all other purchases made with your MileagePlus Explorer card.
  • No foreign transaction fees when you make purchases out of the country with your MileagePlus Explorer card.

This card seems to offer all the benefits any frequent traveler would want. Most importantly, your first year fee is waived and then you will only need to pay $95 in the following year. Your miles will not expire as long as you own the card and you can also take advantage of Priority Boarding when you add your MileagePlus number to your itinerary reservation.

The best part is, by having the card you will have two one-time use passes every year to the United Club lounge.

I would love to see United Airlines work to create a similar credit card like this one which offers to Canadians. You give us awesome aircrafts, so I would expect to see some great credit cards entering the country soon as well.

  1. Where’s the review? Your review of the credit card is longer than the review of the flight itself

    1. Hi Henry, you are quite correct. I actually changed to a more appropriate title to match the content. Thanks for the feedback!
