[AIRPORT] Options for Flights from Hong Kong to Canada

It is no secret that there is a fair amount of people from Hong Kong living in Canada. As a result, there is a lot of traffic for families to visit each other between the two places. I dare to say that Hong Kong might be the city that has the most people who immigrated to Canada. Either way, below is a list of direct flights between the Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Canadian cities:

  • Air Canada – Toronto, Vancouver
  • Cathay Pacific – Toronto, Vancouver

If you live in either Toronto or Vancouver, I am sure that you can find another good deals for the direct flight, depending on when you fly. For those of you who do not live in either of these cities, I would strongly consider options that are connecting through the United States to compare whether it is more worthwhile to do so.

If price is an important factor, then all your options open.

  1. If one wants to fly on Aeroplan miles, then the best way to fly between HKG and YYZ or YVR is EVA Airways. Make one connection in TPE enroute. Save many hundreds of dollars roundtrip.

If use Aeroplan miles to fly on Air Canada YYZ-HKG Aeroplan will charge you hundreds of dollars and call it a “carrier surcharge”. If you fly on EVA YYZ-TPE-HKG they will not, saving you hundreds. This is true in Economy, or Business Class. If you insist on nonstop flights for this trip, you will pay hundreds to avoid a two-hour connection in Taipei. And you’ll miss out on EVA’s superior service and comfort. In Business Class the difference is dramatic, with EVA being so dramatically superior that one wonders why anyone would fly AC.

    1. Those are great suggestions YYZgayguy! I also think United Airlines would also be great, connecting from ORD, EWR or SFO.
