[ANALYSIS] Canadian Tire Money Advantage

It looks like Canadian Tire is going to do away with its Canadian Tire cash and go with a loyalty program instead where you will use a loyalty card to collect rewards. Canadian Tire is launching its Canadian Tire Money Advantage program. The program will begin on October 10, 2014 in the province of Nova Scotia. The rest of Canada will follow suit on October 28, 2014.

You will earn 1 point for every $1 spent at Canadian Tire stores. There will be opportunities to earn bonus points on select items.

You will still be able to collect Canadian Tire cash if you do not use your Canadian Tire Money Advantage card, but you cannot earn both in the same transaction. Canadian Tire cash returns about a 0.4% return, which is pretty dismal. When you redeem your Canadian Tire Money Advantage points, 100 points earns you $1, which means that you are earning 1% return, which comes out better than the 0.4% return.

What’s great is that points will never expire. So far, this program seems to be pretty straightforward and anyone who shops at Canadian Tire should definitely have this rewards card, since it doesn’t even cost anything to have it.

Canadian Tire will also be offering a co-branded credit card to help you earn points faster which I will be writing about in another post.

  1. 10x when you pay with the Canadian Tire Options® MasterCard® at Canadian Tire stores and at Sport Chek®, Mark’s® and PartSource®.

Am I reading this correctly? 10% at Canadian Tire when paying with cobranded MC?

    1. I’m not certain I can see that. It could be a temporary promotion. What I do see is: “3 points for every $1 you spend at Canadian Tire stores in Nova Scotia, when you use both your Canadian Tire Options MasterCard and your Canadian Tire ‘Money’ Advantage card.”

      1. “Canadian Tire Options MasterCard cardmembers paying with their Options MasterCard collect e-Canadian Tire ‘Money’ at a rate that is 10X (or 2X as the case may be) the rate at which other members of the My Canadian Tire ‘Money’ Program collect e-Canadian Tire ‘Money’ on purchases made by such other members at Canadian Tire stores (if those other members paid by cash, debit or a credit card not linked to this loyalty program). The offered rate is exclusive of any bonus or promotional offers or redemption transactions.” http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/my-canadian-tire-money.html

        1. Sounds like the 10x will be on specific items during a promotional event. I think we’ll find out once the program gets rolling. Looking forward to seeing what they have in store!
