Capital One in the United States announced a new airline transfer program. Currently, you earn fixed rewards, which means for every 1 point that you earn, it is worth 1 cent in reward redemption. Going forward (effect December 2018), they have partnered with 12 different airline partners. Normally, I would not write about a U.S. only program, the reason I wrote about it this time is because I saw Air Canada Aeroplan as one of the transfer partners. Is this a preview that we may have something in Canada? I’m not holding my breath, but one can dream.
You will have to have the Capital One Venture or Spark Cards to have the ability to transfer to airline partners.
Capital One Airline Partners and Transfer Rates
There will be 12 airline transfer partners. Oddly enough, there are no U.S. based airlines on the list.
- Aeromexico Club Premier
- Air Canada Aeroplan
- Air France/KLM Flying Blue
- Alitalia MilleMiglia
- Avianca LifeMiles
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles
- Etihad Guest
- EVA Air Infinity MileageLands
- Finnair Plus
- Hainan Airlines Fortune Wings Club
- Qantas Frequent Flyer
- Qatar Airways Privilege Club
All partners will transfer at 2:1.5 ratio (ie. 1,000 Capital One points = 750 airline miles).
So… the big question for us is… Capital One Canada to follow suit soon?
