Credit Cards to Use on Cyber Monday

Though Cyber Monday was really a marketing term originating from the United States, the marketing use of the term expanded to other countries including Canada. Basically on the Monday following the US Thanksgiving, you can find good deals by making purchases online. So today, I will recommend some of the top credit cards to use for making purchases on Cyber Monday.

First of all, if you already have the U.S. currency credit cards issued by Canadian financial institutions, I would use these credit cards for purchases made at U.S. online sites for sure. The Canadian dollar is extremely weak, so if you have U.S. dollars already available to pay off these bills, that you previously converted at a more favourable rate than today, then these are the cards to use:

BMO U.S. Dollar MasterCard

  • $35 USD annual fee (fee is waived the following year if you spend over $1,000 during your anniversary year of having this credit card)
  • No annual fee for supplementary cardholders (no limit mentioned)
  • No rewards

CIBC U.S. Dollar Visa Card

  • $35 USD annual fee
  • No annual fee for supplementary cardholders (to a maximum of 3)
  • No rewards
  • No foreign transaction fees when shopping in the US

RBC U.S. Dollar Visa Gold

  • $65 USD annual fee
  • $30 USD for supplementary cardholders
  • Earn 1 RBC Rewards point for every $1 spend on all purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees when shopping in the US

TD U.S. Dollar Visa Card

  • $39 USD annual fee
  • No annual fee for supplementary cardholders (no limit mentioned)
  • No rewards
  • No foreign transaction fees when shopping in the US

If you do not already have any U.S. dollars converted and you need to convert Canadian dollars into U.S. just to pay these bills off, then you are better off using any of the Chase Canada credit cards that waives its foreign transaction fee. Though my primary recommendation would be the:

Chase Amazon.ca Rewards Visa Card

  • No annual fee
  • Earn a $20 Amazon Gift Certificate upon approval
  • Earn 2 cents for every $1 spent on Amazon.ca purchases
  • Earn 1 cent for every $1 spent on all other purchases
  • No foreign transaction fees

The reason is because it does not have an annual fee; furthermore, the rewards are very straightforward. As soon as you earn $20 in cash back, it will automatically be credited to your account without any hassle. All the other Chase Canada credit cards have one obstacle or another in order to redeem the points relatively speaking.
