[ANALYSIS] Delta Air Lines SkyMiles

Delta Air Lines has a rewards program called SkyMiles, which is a very underrated program for Canadians, so I am going to point out all the positives.

No Expiry

The key about SkyMiles is that their points never expire. So you do not have to worry about keeping your account active, because the points are not going away.

Alliances

Delta Air Lines is a member of the SkyTeam, so you can use these points for rewards flights on multiple airlines giving you much more flexibility with the points.

Earning Points with Credit Cards

Capital One offers two credit cards to help you jump start your SkyMiles: Delta SkyMiles World MasterCard and Delta SkyMiles Gold MasterCard. More details on the credit cards here.

SkyMiles is also a transfer partner of AMEX Membership Rewards: 1,000 Membership Rewards = 750 Delta SkyMiles. You can earn Membership Rewards by signing up for the AMEX Platinum Card or the AMEX Gold Rewards Card.

Bonus Transfer Partner

Starwood Preferred Guest’s Starpoints are also transfer partners of Delta at a 1:1 ratio. Do not forget about the 5,000 bonus for every 20,000 points exchanged. Therefore, 20,000 Starpoints = 25,000 SkyMiles.

Conclusion

If you travel internationally often enough, I would strongly consider the Delta SkyMiles program because of the no expiry policy, flexibility of reward redemption and the different avenues to earn points faster.
