[DISCONTINUED] Air Miles Reward – Cineplex Night Out Movie Package

UPDATE- Air Miles has decided to soften the blow, its website now states: “September 30, 2014 will be the last day you can redeem for this Cineplex Night Out Movie Package.”

I have been a hard critic on Air Miles, due to its expiry policies. Accounts need to be active once every 24 months to stay active. Furthermore, points will expiry 5 years after the date they were deposited, starting on December 31, 2016. There has also been constant devaluations of its program, in which you consistently need more points for the same reward.

I felt that the “Cineplex Entertainment LP – Cineplex Night Out Movie Package” has a lot of value. The packaged included: 2 Free Admissions, 2 Regular Soft drinks, and 1 Regular Popcorn.

The certificate was valid at any Famous Players, Cineplex Odeon or Galaxy Cinemas throughout Canada for movie performances only. It did not include IMAX, 3D or Real D presentations or VIP room admissions. But you can still use for the later if you added a few extra dollars per person to offset the shortfall.

It used to cost 175 points to redeem a package. Then it went up to 190 points. It finally settled at 200 points for the same reward. I was still redeeming the package even at 200 points , but as of August 25, 2014, the reward has been discontinued.

This is quite a disappointing turn of events. I am curious to know what triggered such a break up in partnership. Either way, it looks bad on Air Miles just because of all the bad news piling up with its program.

I’ve already stopped getting Air Miles linked credit cards to earn Air Miles.

Instead of being excited about Air Miles, now I find myself waiting to see what other bad news is up next.
