Marriott 15 Reward Night Credits Coming Through

It is official, at least for me, Chase Canada has fully honoured what they promised when the closed its Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Visa. Here is a chronology is what has been happening:

  1. Chase Marriott Rewards Premier Visa Discontinued (existing cardholders grandfathered)
  2. All grandfathered cardholders terminated (with promise of Free Night Certificate and 15 Reward Night Credits)
  3. Free Night Certificate Awarded
  4. 15 Reward Night Credits Awarded (see below)

So that’s it! Chase Canada entered Canada with a bang! With some impressive products. But also left with a bang! With amazing parting gifts.

It is a very bittersweet feeling. I am glad that they left on good terms (for the most part), hopefully this sets a precedent for other credit card companies in Canada that may need to shut down. However, it is very disappointing that they were not able to grow their client base either to continue competing in Canada.

Maybe one day they will come back stronger. However, I do not see this happening any time soon. Time to turn our attention elsewhere. This is why I always recommend to keep your portfolio diversified.

Note that I am still hearing that some people did not receive their Certificate or 15 Night Credits yet, so you may want to start following up with Chase Canada now (if you have not received it yet).

  1. Any news for a replacement to the Marriott Rewards card in Canada, similar to the new Premier Plus card launched today in the US?

  2. Got mine too! Jumped from 25 to 40 night credits. That was the best credit card I have ever had. Will miss it but hoping for an even improved pairing soon.
