[AIRLINE] Porter Charges for Baggage Fees

Porter is changing its baggage fee policy. From May 14, 2014 onward, the baggage fee structure will change. The new fee structure is as follows:

Firm Flexible Freedom
1st bag $ 25 – $ 28.25 $ 25 – $ 28.25 $ 0
2nd bag $ 35 – $ 40.25 $ 35 – $ 40.25 $ 0
3rd bag and subsequent $ 100 – $ 115 $ 100 – $ 115 $ 100 – $ 115
Weight fee per bag
of any one bag above 23kg
$ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25
Oversized fee per bag $ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25

Just for quick comparison, this was the fee structure before May 14, 2014.

Firm Flexible Freedom
1st bag $ 0 $ 0 $ 0
2nd bag $ 20 – $ 23 $ 20 – $ 23 $ 0
3rd bag and subsequent $ 100 – $ 115 $ 100 – $ 115 $ 100 – $ 115
Weight fee per bag
of any one bag above 23kg
$ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25
Oversized fee per bag $ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25 $ 75 – $ 86.25

As you can see, the fees also increased for the 2nd bag. The fee structure for the rest of the chart remains the same. The only way to avoid baggage fees, on your first and second bag is to pay for the freedom priced flight, which is the most expensive ticket because it gives you the ability to change or cancel your flight up to 1 hour prior to the departure time (subject to fare difference, applicable taxes and availability).

This is obviously a very customer unfriendly move by Porter. Two thumbs down for Porter on this move.
