Top Cash Back Credit Card Offers for August 2019

Another month, another list. This time, there is very little change from last month. There were months where I tried to highlight a featured card, or picked a top monthly card. I think that I may go with a rotating theme just to mix things up. For this month, I am going to answer a common question: “If I had to choose 1 cash back card only, which one would it be?”

Favourite Cash Back Card

The criteria that I am going to go with when choosing my favourite cash back card is choosing a card that I would keep in my wallet long term. So, I will not base my choice on sign up bonus offers (as that would be more suitable for churning). I was torn between the Simplii Financial Cash Back Visa Card and Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card.

But if it came to it, I would choose the Tangerine Money-Back Credit Card. The reason being that it offers a 2% cash back on choice of categories. Which means that I would always take advantage of the 2% cash back option and rotate categories depending on my high spending for that period of time. The other deal breaker for me (compared to other options) is that there is no annual fee on the Tangerine card. This means that there is no issue keeping this card in my wallet long term.

That being said, I do not actually have a Tangerine card, only because I am still fortunate enough to be grandfathered to the Capital One Aspire Travel World Elite MasterCard. If Capital One ever decided to shut this card down complete, you can be sure that the Tangerine card will be in my wallet for 2% purchases only.
