Top Credit Card Higher than Normal Sign Up Bonuses for December 2018

Most promotions started on November 1, 2018, so there are only a few minor changes this month.

I ranked the credit cards by the price of the annual fees (lowest to highest):

  • BMO SPC Air Miles MasterCard – no annual fee, earn 800 sign up bonus Air Miles after the first purchase (if you sign up before October 31, 2019). Earn 400 miles after the first purchase and another 400 miles after spending $1,000 within the first 3 months. Normally 200 sign up bonus.
  • BMO Air Miles MasterCard – no annual fee, earn 800 sign up bonus Air Miles after the first purchase (if you sign up before October 31, 2019). Earn 400 miles after the first purchase and another 400 miles after spending $1,000 within the first 3 months. Normally 200 sign up bonus.
  • BMO Rewards MasterCard – no annual fee, earn 20,000 sign up bonus points (if you sign up before October 31, 2019). Earn 10,000 after the first purchase and another 10,000 after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months. Normally 10,000 sign up bonus.
  • Scotiabank More Rewards Visa Card – no annual fee, earn 15,000 sign up bonus More Reward points after making the first purchase within 90 days (if you apply before February 28, 2019). Normally 5,000 sign up bonus.
  • BMO Air Miles World Elite MasterCard – $120 annual fee (first year fee waived if you apply before March 31, 2019), earn 3,000 sign up bonus Air Miles (if you apply before March 31, 2019). Earn 1,000 miles after the first purchase and earn an additional 2,000 miles after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months. Normally, 2,000 sign up bonus.
  • CIBC Aventura Visa Card for Business – $120 annual fee (first year fee waived if you apply before February 28, 2019); earn 35,000 sign up bonus points (if you apply before February 89, 2019). Earn 20,000 after the first purchase and another 15,000 after spending $3,000 in the first 4 months. Normally 20,000 points.
  • CIBC Aventura Gold Visa Card – $120 annual fee (first year fee waived); earn 20,000 sign up bonus Aventura points (if you apply before February 28, 2019). Earn 15,000 points after the first purchase and another 5,000 after spending $1,000 within the first 4 months). Normally 15,000 points.
  • CIBC Aventura Visa Infinite Card – $120 annual fee (first year fee waived); earn 20,000 sign up bonus Aventura points (if you apply before February 28, 2019). Earn 15,000 points after the first purchase and another 5,000 after spending $1,000 within the first 4 months). Normally 15,000 points.
  • RBC Visa Infinite Avion Card – $120 annual fee (first year fee waived); earn 20,000 sign up bonus Avion points (no specific timeline). Earn 15,000 points after the first purchase and another 5,000 after spending $1,000 within the first 3 months). Normally 15,000 points.
  • TD First Class Travel Visa Infinite Card – $120 annual fee (first year fee waived if you apply before February 25, 2019); earn 40,000 sign up bonus points (if you apply before February 25, 2019). Earn 20,000 after the first purchase and another 20,000 after spending $1,000 in the first 3 monthly cycles. Normally 20,000 points.
  • Scotiabank Passport Visa Infinite Card – $139 annual fee; earn 25,000 sign up bonus points after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months (if you apply before January 31, 2019). Uncertain what their normal offer is as it is the first offer since the card started.
  • HSBC World Elite MasterCard – $149 annual fee (first year fee waived if you apply before December 31, 2018; except Quebec); earn 105,000 (Quebec only) or 75,000 (rest of Canada) sign up bonus points (if you apply before December 31, 2018). Account needs to be in a good standing after the first 120 days). Normally 20,000 points.
  • Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card – $399 annual fee, $99 annual fee for an authorized user and earn 30,000 sign up bonus points after making a purchase in the first 2 months (if you apply before February 28, 2019). Uncertain what their normal offer is as they have extended this offer for years.
  • CIBC Aerogold Visa Infinite Privilege Card – $399 annual fee, $99 annual fee for an authorized user and earn 50,000 sign up bonus Aeroplan miles (if you apply before February 28, 2019). Earn 25,000 Aeroplan miles after the first purchase and earn additional 25,000 Aeroplan miles after spending $1,000 after the first 3 months. Normally 25,000 sign up bonus.

    waived 1 year fees
    accumulate aeroplan pts
    additional bonus/pts for a secondary card holder (shared account)
    Any idea ?

    1. It is slim pickings on public offers at the moment. I suggest walking into a TD or CIBC branch to give one of the Infinite cards a try (i.e. ask for first year fee waived).
