Top Credit Cards to use at Restaurants (updated January 27, 2019)

As we approach Valentine’s Day, restaurants usually expect a little more business. There is still time to apply for the right card for that day. Below are the top picks.

I have classified the credit cards in different categories and ranked them by their annual fees.

Cash Back Credit Cards

For this category, I only listed credit cards with at least a 5% cash back return.

Simplii Financial Cash Back Visa Card

  • No annual fee
  • Earn 10% cash back on restaurants and bars on the first $500 in spending or within the first 4 months (whichever is completed first)
  • Have at least $15,000 in annual household income

BMO CashBack MasterCard

  • No annual fee
  • Earn 5% cash back on first $2,000 in spending or within the first 3 months (whichever is completed first) (if you apply before November 30, 2019)

BMO SPC CashBack MasterCard

  • No annual fee
  • Earn 5% cash back on first $2,000 in spending or within the first 3 months (whichever is completed first) (if you apply before November 30, 2019)

Scotia Momentum Visa Infinite Card

  • $99 annual fee (first year fee waived if you apply before February 28, 2019)
  • $30 annual fee for a supplementary cardholder
  • Earn 10% cash back on first $2,000 in spending or within the first 3 months (whichever is completed first) (if you apply before February 28, 2019)
  • Have at least $60,000 in personal annual income, $100,000 in annual household income or $250,000 in assets under management

American Express SimplyCash Preferred Card

  • $99 annual fee
  • Earn 5% cash back on first $6,000 in spending or within the first 3 months (whichever is completed first)

TD Cash Back Visa Infinite Card

  • $120 annual fee
  • Earn 6% cash back on all purchases on the first $3,500 in spending or within the first 3 months (whichever is completed first) (if you apply before February 25, 2019)
  • Have at least $60,000 in personal annual income, $100,000 in annual household income

BMO CashBack World Elite MasterCard

  • $120 annual fee
  • Earn 5% cash back on all purchases (for the first 3 months, up to $4,000 in spending or $200 in cash back) (if you apply before November 30, 2019)
  • Have at least $80,000 in personal annual income or $150,000 in annual household income

Points Cards

I only listed credit cards that give at least at least 4% cash back worth of points for every $1 spent.

  • $10 monthly fee
  • Earn 5 points for every $1 spent on grocery and dining (includes restaurant, bar café, food delivery) purchases (no multiplier bonus limit)

Scotiabank Gold American Express Card

  • $99 annual fee
  • $29 for additional cardholders
  • Earn 4 points for every $1 spent on gas stations, grocery stores, on dining and entertainment on the first $50,000 in annual spending
  • Have at least $12,000 in annual household income

Scotiabank Platinum American Express Card

  • $399 annual fee
  • $99 for supplementary cardholders
  • Earn 4 points for every $1 spent on gas stations, grocery stores, on dining and entertainment on the first $100,000 in annual spending
  • Have at least $12,000 in annual household income
