Top United States Credit Cards Offered in Canada (updated March 23, 2016)

It has been a while since we last updated this list. With the weak Canadian dollar, apparently slowly recovering, I thought I’d update the list of United States affiliated credit cards offered by Canadian financial institutions.

The benefits of having such a credit card is that you can convert your Canadian dollars into American dollars when the Canadian dollar is strong to lock in a more favourable rate ahead of time to be used pay these credit card bills later on. Unfortunately, now is not the best time to convert Canadian into US dollars (USD), so this option is more favourable for people who already have USD sitting around.

At the very last, you will not have to pay the foreign transaction fees for USD purchases. Just keep in mind that the foreign transaction fees are not waived for other purchases.

Below is the updated list of credit cards, which I have ranked according to the annual fees. You will notice that I have added the business cards as well:

  1. Here’s something that not many know they can do: open a US credit card through TD bank in the US and use your SIN and Canadian credit file. It usually comes with a 20-30,000 aeroplan miles, too. First year no fee, then $95.
